Swimsafer is a comprehensive swimming program designed to teach individuals of all ages the necessary skills to be confident and safe in the water. The program consists of six stages, each building upon the skills learned in the previous stage. In 2023, the Swimsafer examination was held to assess the progress and proficiency of participants in each stage.

Swimsafer Stage 1

Stage 1 focuses on water confidence and basic water safety skills. Participants are taught how to enter and exit the water safely, demonstrate buoyancy and water movement, and perform basic water skills such as submerging their face and blowing bubbles. The examination for Stage 1 assesses these fundamental skills and ensures that participants are comfortable in the water.

Swimsafer Stage 2

In Stage 2, participants continue to build upon their water safety skills and learn basic swimming strokes. They are introduced to the freestyle and backstroke and learn how to perform them effectively. Additionally, participants are taught important water survival skills such as treading water and performing a forward roll entry. The examination for Stage 2 evaluates the participants' ability to swim confidently and perform these skills.

Swimsafer Stage 3

Stage 3 focuses on stroke development and introduces participants to the breaststroke and butterfly stroke. Participants learn proper breathing techniques and refine their swimming strokes. They also learn how to perform a simple rescue technique and are taught basic water survival skills. The examination for Stage 3 assesses the participants' proficiency in the breaststroke and butterfly stroke, as well as their ability to perform rescue techniques.

Swimsafer Stage 4

Stage 4 builds upon the skills learned in the previous stages and focuses on stroke refinement. Participants learn advanced swimming techniques and are introduced to the sidestroke and elementary backstroke. They also learn how to perform a throwing rescue and are taught more advanced water survival skills. The examination for Stage 4 evaluates the participants' ability to perform the sidestroke and elementary backstroke, as well as their proficiency in rescue techniques.

Swimsafer Stage 5

Stage 5 aims to further refine participants' swimming strokes and improve their endurance. Participants learn the individual medley and continue to practice the techniques learned in previous stages. They also learn more advanced rescue techniques and are taught basic water survival skills in open water. The examination for Stage 5 assesses the participants' proficiency in the individual medley and their ability to perform advanced rescue techniques.

Swimsafer Stage 6

Stage 6 is the final stage of the Swimsafer program and focuses on personal water safety and survival skills. Participants learn essential lifesaving skills such as CPR and first aid. They also learn how to perform a rescue in open water and are taught advanced water survival skills. The examination for Stage 6 evaluates the participants' knowledge and ability to perform these lifesaving skills.

The Swimsafer examination in 2023 provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their progress and skills in each stage of the program. It emphasized the importance of water safety and ensured that individuals are equipped with the necessary skills to enjoy water activities safely. The Swimsafer program continues to play a vital role in promoting water safety and proficiency in swimming.
